To determine value, our analysts evaluate three recognized valuation approaches:

  • Income approach
  • Market approach
  • Asset approach

Income Approach

The income approach uses the present value of the future free cash flow to represent the value of the interest being transacted. However, uncertainties associated with the projection must be reasonably quantified. Financial history is critical to the financial projection, but an experienced appraiser considers various drivers including but not limited to national and local economy, industry trends, advantages and disadvantages compared to peers. Normalization of earnings such as non-recurring or non-operating income and expenses requires careful assessments. Optionality and probabilities come into play if most measures are not mature enough to indicate the value of the business.

Market Approach

The market approach compares your business to similar companies and completed transactions. EBITDA multiples are commonly used, but they are not appropriate for every business.

Our valuation professionals carefully assess comparable companies instead of relying solely on database results. This detailed analysis helps improve the accuracy and reliability of each valuation.

Asset Approach

The asset approach is often the best choice for asset holding companies, early-stage businesses, or organizations with significant tangible assets. However, it may not fully capture the value of intangible assets or future earning potential.

Why Experience Matters in Business Valuation

Every valuation requires professional judgment. Our analysts evaluate all three valuation approaches before reaching a final conclusion. This comprehensive process helps ensure each valuation is accurate, well-supported, and appropriate for its intended purpose.

Whether you need a valuation for tax planning, litigation, a transaction, or strategic decision-making, A&C has the experience to provide credible and defensible valuation services.
